Jasmine Mans: Nicki Minaj

This is a poem about Nicki Minaj from up poet Jasmine Mans. This joint is fire and it provided me with a different perspective about Nicki's image. At first listen I took it as a diss but after repeated listens I realized this piece said much more.

Here are the words:

You are being traded paper in exchange for you to be plastic

All Dolls will evidentially mal-function

(I don't even know why you girls bother at this point like give it up, it 's me I win you lose)

Nicki MInaj,

(It's me)

I must admit

(Its, its me)

I have always been intrigued by your ass,

I guess that's what the world looked like after falling from your shoulders.

(Like give it up)

You have the heartbeat of a suicide bomber

A baseline breathing out of your pulse

Your thighs play storage for the weight of the world

I dreamt that you used to back packed, the lost raps, of Female MCs who could not find their way out the cipher

(Its just like I single handedly annihilated like every rape bitch in the build)

Traded in your crown for unsharpened pencils and blank CDs

(Like give it up)

Do you ever feel a cord gripping on your neck, choke, spit?

Don't let this industry fuck the Assata out of you

Can and will never be code for queen

You are a Queen no matter how many times they try to shuffle you back in tape decks.

Bi Sex, straight, you've earned my respect

(You da Bestest)

But I know your spine binds and crooked lines

And you can't seem to write a rhyme for your broken daughters

Slaughter, bent over back, ass cracked, bitch slapped, in videos

There is nothing pedal bike pretty about broken

Do you know what this media is trying to do to you?

They will porcelain

Doll the shit out of you

Leave you noose necked hanging from Zion they will Lauryn Hill you

The mis-education of a Barbie doll coming soon

(I just had an epiphany)

Barbie, I think NYC is making you forget you come from Queens

Its scary when you have wack MCs trying to ghost write your obituary

(You should buy a 16 cuz I write it good)

Your existence is not recyclable to me

Stop spitting me toy stories

Of Woodys and Buzzlight Years who only come alive when no body is watching

Fake breast

Once upon a time before puberty and tissue filled training bras all little girls wanted a toy chest

What do you treasure? *

You have turned your G-spot into a land-mind

Dirty, disgusting

We have been waiting centuries for a woman like you to carve your stiletto in history

This microphone is not a dildo so you are going to have to cum a little harder than that,

(I, win, I win, you lose)

Come a little harder for rap

Too many women before you have laid down tracks -- UNIT...Y?

So you wouldn't have to record your on your back

Spit some shit it for girls who kiss girls and got beat down to their backs

We will remember you for that

Lips sync your screams and remember your inflections and copyright your raps

For young money anyone can buy themselves their own ( I'm Nick Minaj, Nicki Lewinski, Nicki Barbie, the boss)

Crown, Vagina, Womanhood, and Talent,

All Sold separately

You are being stabbed in the back

Inserted with a wind up string and a tag?

(R, R, R, Roger that)

  1. OMG! She came hard! Historically, Intellectually, Viscerally HARD... In fact, she came "HOARD": meaning when some thing or someone is EXTRA hard!

    "They will Lauryn Hill you!"

The best of Poets have a way of showing & telling the truth, giving it to you, straight no chaser, & hopefully, when they succeed, they make you sit inside your silence, inside your head, inside your spirit... & THINK... in the aftermath of the poem's wrath.

    Sista was baaaaaaaadddd!

    Nicki, are you listening?

  2. Yep, I worry for Nicki too. There are a lot of negative forces working against her.

  3. That was sick! I fucks with you.. I wonder why girls wanna be like her?

The explain she is setting isn't good.

    Great post!

  4. I KNEW IT!!!

To quote Tupac...Hard, like an erection!

  5. This was on FIRE! Enjoyed reading it today at work and hearing and seeing it was even better! Thanks for sharing!

  6. Phenomenal and filled with so much TRUTH. I mean this could be any other female out there too exploiting herself for 'the cause'. I loved it! Thanks for sharing.

I'd be interested to know if Nicki ever heard/saw it herself.

  7. I am doing research for my university paper, thanks for your helpful points, now I am acting on a sudden impulse.

  8. Just from reading the comments I am disappointed that I can't see the video at this moment. Thanks for posting the words, I read 'em, but I have to watch the video for the full effect that I know is coming. Lol.

    Good stuff. I shall return.

  9. I've been planning to post about this for a few days now... I'll probably do that tonight. There is so much raw emotion. Excellent blog though, I'll follow it.

  10. Jasmine pretty much dissected Nicki Minaj's entire persona during the impressive prose.

She even included the robotic doll-like animations, which brought a little humor to the strong message that she attempts to get across to, I'm thinking, the negative effect that Minaj represents?

    Thanks for sharing. Good stuff.

  11. Very WELLL spoken! She took the words out of our mouths....I am speechless because she hit the nail on the head!

  12. This comment has been removed by the author.

  13. Thanks for including the words. I couldn't hear everything she was saying because of all the cheering, but seeing what she said makes the message even more impactive.

  14. @Lin
When I heard this it blew my top. Her delivery and content is hard hitting. I hope Nicki is listening.

  15. @Sunny
I think she is doing what she feels is necessary to be successful.

  16. @Miz
No doubt Miz! When I heard this, I wanted everybody else to hear it too.

  17. @Traci
I've thought about that. If Nicki does hear it. I hope she gets what this young lady is really saying and not be offended.

  18. @Anon

    You're welcome! Damn spam.

  19. @Alee
This needs to be heard by as many people as possible, it's incredible art.

  20. @Don
The animated movements gave extra life to the words.

  21. @UCB
    I agree and you're welcome!

  22. I dont think it needs to be titled Nicki Minaj, it will have the same power without calling her out specifically. Many female artist sell out just like that...just look at before & afters of many female performers.

But I do agree with her 100% because it is so truthful & honest. i loved it.

I was listening to Nicki being interviewed the other day on the radio & she said that she wanted to use her real name but her managment team said no, because Nicki Minaj sounded more sexual so she said OK! Even now she still wants to use her regular name.

That just shows how right this poet is & how money & fame makes people do things they dont want to do.

  23. @Poppy
I think she targeted Nicki Minaj because she is the only female emcee that really matters a this point.

I agree. It is a powerful messge.

  24. I don't get Jasmine point. I never had and never will because it seemed like she was simply just 'hating' on Nicki's success. That's the only point I got from the entire poem and performance, and I say this with a reason.

Jasmine first performed this poem at a show with Janelle Monae, an artist who portrays herself as an Android but went 'hard' on Nicki for portraying herself as a Barbie. So what exactly is Jasmine saying? That our women should take the form of robots? Because if Jasmine really cared about how women are portrayed by the media and artist alike, she would have started off with Janelle whom she performed with and titled her poem 'Janelle Monae' instead of 'Nicki Minaj'. But looking past Janelle's image to address that of Nicki meant Jasmine prefers Androids to Barbies. So what are Androids again? A robotic machine without a soul and its own mind that are programmed to follow the commands of its owner. Is that how Jasmine want to empower our women? Well, that sounds like modern day slavery to me... and if that is the route women want to follow, I won't knock your hustle because it would make things a lot easier for men who want to dominate the world. Hell, it would even make things a lot easier for me in my relationships because it would mean women would also lose the power to control their sex lives... so anytime I want sex, I'm sure I'd get it from my Android.

So my conclusion is, Jasmine does not give a rats ass about women empowerment or how the media portrays them, but just a plain and simple minded 'hater' who is riding on Nicki's tails to get some attention and hoping to get a couple of millions from it. That's the only message I got from her poem.
