Oshun Smiled

Photobucket

You swoon me like good ideas
and good energy, like the I pod
and Church service. Drinking Mango
Juice and chewing Maca root, the smell of
Banana cake and Pecan rolls,
Thelma on Good times and
70's soul, when Nasir writes and
Jean Grae spits and that easy
feeling I get in between
rum and coke sips...You swoon me.

You swoon me like
Miles’s horn
and Sade’s voice--
Keeping me faithful
in between albums.
Writers and fighters,
Profound quotes
and introspective folks,
and the silence of music
in between the notes,
like a Sanchez stanza,
archers and scales,
like a JDilla beat
and a Bassey Ikpi tweet...
Baby, you swoon me.

You swoon me like poetry
and pinky linking,
warm embraces in peculiar places
The Caribbean Sea,
a Ray Allen three,
Papi on Fulton shouting:
“Yo! What you got for me?”

Like rainy day cuddle time,
The joining of souls, in the
throes of love, the con
nection of minds. Tantric
sex, locked legs in the bed
connecting complex concepts.

Speaking of that reflex:

I want to marinate in you,
make you breathe hard
through your nostrils,
tremor your body under
the weight of my desire,
intoxicate from your vintage
strip you fresh
and eat the flesh of my
personal Jesus.

I touch myself when
I think of you I smell your
scent when I am hunting. My eyes
burn from the madness of your vessel.
navigating your circumference,
destroy planets when we collide.
Exhale euphoria and snatch air
In a lust filled obsidian.

Melodically kiss you,
orchestrate some lip work,
tease your nape,
sensationalize your nipples,
remix staccato sighs,
rhythmic Morse code,
Inhale the aroma of your wanting,
bathe in your oxygen,
weep from the divinity of entry.

Feel Me?

You swoon me like black love,
Afro picks up and fists’ high!
like the magical motion of
masterful hips...like the hypnotic
glare of mac-glossed lips.
You swoon me like dark skin
women in videos, like the leftover
cake mix chillin in the
bowl, like Grace Jones’ skin tone, a
Claude McKay poem,
like What’s Going On? and
Let’s Get It On… Honey comb...
You swoon me.

  1. Damn, bruh! This was definitely a swoon-worthy piece! Loving some of these allusions here & how you kept it historical & black & so damned grown!

Nice to see a piece where you remind us of your wordsmithery skillz, & we witness you flex your poetic sinews as we groove to your unique syntax & sensibilities!

  5. "like Grace Jones’ skin tone and a

It's a real talent to be able to say so much with so few words.

  13. Woo ha! That was fuckin splendid!

Every time I read one of your poems my head comes to rest on my chin, in recognition of the invocation and cerebral, 5-sense engagement they bring.

That's a testimony to your skill, Champ.

  15. I was wondering if you ever thought of changing the structure of your
blog? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.
But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better.
Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or 2 images.

Maybe you could space it out better?
